Deaf Couple Ties The knot In Rare Wedding Ceremony At SDA Church Machakos Central

On Sunday 23rd April 2023,it was joy and Ululations at SDA CHURCH MACHAKOS CENTRAL as Joseph Mutuku and Lauren Omwaka tied the knot in a colourful wedding.


Joseph Mutuku from Itetani,Tulimani in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County and Lauren Omwaka from Kwisoiro ,Kakamega County, both deaf, dated for years and later agreed to get married, to live together happily.


Joseph Mutuku had gone through tough life-Up and Down, looking for his own rib, until when he met Lauren Omwaka, the love of his life.

It was a unique colourful wedding at the SDA Church Machakos Central, which is located just few kilometres from Machakos Town, next to Bishop Kioko Hospital.


With the help of an interpreter, the church followed the wedding proceedings without missing a word the couple exchanged.


They couple mostly used messages to communicate to each other, while dating.


After Joseph Mutuku approached the church requesting to be helped financially to marry the love of his life Lauren Omwaka, the SDA Church Machakos Central took the matter on hands, and decided to fully organise Joseph's wedding, from contributions by the church and well wishers.

According to the Pastor Incharge /Station Director Joseph Munyao, the couple, have been worshipping at the church for long.


He said that they've known Joseph for long, as an obedient and true Christian, and that's why they decided to take up the matter to help Joseph see his wedding happen.


They were officiated by Station Director Joseph Munyao in collaboration with Silas Kioko.


The couple told Rada TV that they were happy to see their dream come true, saying that they always wished to have a classic wedding like the one the church organised for them.


The Station Director Joseph Munyao told the media that it is not only Joseph Mutuku and Lauren Omwaka, but there are others, who will be supported by the church, not only deaf but also with other special challenges.

He called on other churches to follow their tracks, saying that the Different Abled people sometimes suffer deeply,due to lack of support, saying that there are many others in the society who wish to get married, but due to lack of support, they are always been nailed by stress and depression, a matter that can be controlled through support and care.


The church offered everything, with each member contributing and also taking a part to help during the wedding day.


The church also organised their Honeymoon, a good move indeed.


It was ululations at the reception, for lots of people from Machakos Town and surroundings, had to pass by to have an eye of such colourful wedding organised by SDA CHURCH MACHAKOS CENTRAL.

The cake matron Sheilla Watinga said that it was a unique wedding, saying that the church is of good heart.


Agnes Mbithe - The Church's Youth Leader congratulated her fellow church members for standing with the youth to see them succeed in their lives, saying that at most a times, the youth suffer from isolation which in return lead to depression, a matter that has never been registered at their church.


Lauren Omwaka used to stay in Kibera, Nairobi and Joseph Mutuku at Machakos. Now they have been united to stay together peacefully.
