MY P&P JOB DIDN'T COME ON A SILVER PLATTER, SAYS DISABLED BUSIA ECDE TEACHER

An Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teacher from Busia County who is living with disability has thanked God that saw his terms of employment changed from contract to permanent and pensionable.

Mr Samuel Obukol Epuret, 44, from Agong'et Primary School ECDE Centre in Malaba North Ward was among 533 teachers whose employment terms were changed and with Busia Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong presiding over the handing over of appointment letters to the recipients.

" To land a P&P job did not come on a silver platter. I put efforts in school that saw me obtain a certificate in ECDE to land teaching opportunity, albeit on contract on 6th June, 2019," he recalled.

He added, " Coincidently on the same date (6th May, 2022) a miracle happened when I received an appointment letter confirming my terms to permanent and pensionable.

He said it was a long wait but God's time is the best, thanking the Governor and the Department of Education and Vocational Training under CECM Prof Grephas Opata for actualizing his dream.

With this turn of events, Epuret can now afford to source for long-term loans which can improve his investment and also help educate his children.

Lentrine Anne Emoiti from Malaba Township Primary School ECDE Centre thanked H.E Ojaamong for valuing them, promising to double her efforts to ensure all 85 learners who are under her care transit to Grade one.

Stephen Oluoch (Isongo Primary ) said his long time dream has yielded fruits while Simon Osae of Nyalwanda Primary said Sh10,000 they used to earn per month was a drop in the ocean, making it difficult to pay schoolfees.

Lilian Awino of Busire Primary agreed with the adage that says patience pays, adding that she can now be able to meet her obligations including paying the fees and purchasing basic necessities.

" I am happly to note that 78 learners whom I taught from PP1 have all joined Grade one. I am now handling PP1 hoping to do the same after next year," she said.
