Machakos governor, Wavinya Ndeti has urged the Government to rethink its policy on taxation, saying the majority of citizens were heavily burdened by taxes.
Speaking during a Sunday Service at AIC Kasina in Mlolongo, Wavinya said the majority of citizens were having difficulties meeting their basic needs, and should therefore be exempted from further taxation.
“Life has become very tough not only in Kenya but also across the world and we are asking the Government to explore the most appropriate ways to cushion citizens from excessive taxation,” said Wavinya.
The governor declared she was ready to pursue the direction prescribed by Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka in pressing for justice over what has been termed as excessive taxation by the Kenya Kwanza government.
Kalonzo who accompanied Wavinya in the church service said he did not have faith in the judicial process of challenging the proposed new taxes mooted by Busia senator, Omukiya Omutata.
The Wiper leader said he believed in the sound judgment of the Kenyan people regarding the controversial taxes, claiming the courts were capable of being compromised.
